City Utility Corporation (Gazette, March 24). That's a title that should have taxpayers concerned. As Mayor Cathy Heron said it should not impact taxpayers. I have yet to see this city start a project, keep it within budget and be completed on time. I think this could have a major financial impact on taxpayers. The distribution costs on the water, garbage pickup and storm water treatment are already ridiculous. With this cute little plan I can see them increasing further.
Council does not have a decent track record on being able to plan and carry out projects without increasing taxes to pay for their white elephants. If you intend to have a business you go about it with good business sense (lacking big time on this council) and do it with your own funds, not everyone else's. If you fail at your business venture you and you alone will suffer the consequences.
When did it become okay to pursue these kinds of things with money taken from people who have no control over your spending, tax increases and project failures? Once again I find the thinking of this mayor and council detrimental to the citizens of St Albert.
