As another winter storm approaches I am interested to see how the city handles snow removal.
As a frequent commuter to Edmonton, I couldn’t help but notice snow removal in that city is superior to ours. Even non-bus routes in that city have been cleared to a level that would not need a major scraping later.
As Edmonton’s city council put more money into snow removal, our council denied the same here a couple of years ago. While we do have all of our residential streets cleared to the pavement once a year, it usually comes as a reaction to horrible side streets with more than a 10-centimetre base.
Perhaps a system such as Edmonton’s that keeps it close to five centimetres on all roads to avoid all the ruts might be one that could work here. Or maybe it’s just better to wait until they get real bad before they get cleared. After all, it is only winter six months a year.
