City not responsible for Healing Garden

While the importance of the Healing Garden is debatable, given that residential schools in St Albert closed over 50 years ago, there is no debate as to which level of government would be financially responsible to provide financing.

While the importance of the Healing Garden is debatable, given that residential schools in St Albert closed over 50 years ago, there is no debate as to which level of government would be financially responsible to provide financing. It's not property owners.

The provincial and federal governments are spending hundreds of millions of dollars to implement the Truth and Reconciliation recommendations. Further, both governments have decided that this Healing Garden does not meet their requirements/priorities and have declined funding.

It is pleasing to note that when deciding not to provide funding, the majority of city council realizes there are limits to what property owners are financially responsible for.
