I was very much interested in Donna Hunter's arguments against religion in Catholic schools.
Considering that parents have options to send their children to other non-religious schools (public and private) and that students are not forced to participate in prayer, it seems a bit excessive.
It has been my experience that parents resisting religion in schools are often drawn to the benefits of Christian principles. Christian principles are common to most religions and help create better citizens and a better world.
If we remove these values, schools would be colder. At a time when our children are suffering the highest suicide rates ever, I believe we must nurture "love thy neighbour" principles.
Be careful what we wish for.
