To propose a land swap (Braeside, along Sturgeon Road) that takes away a community’s parkland is unforgivable. I have asked to have the following entered into the meeting agenda package for the St. Albert city council meeting Nov. 20, 2017. Regarding bylaws 26/2017 and 27/2017 Public hearing: To propose a land swap that takes away a community’s parkland is unforgivable. The proposal swaps .13 hectares of valuable land/parkland for land a developer bought in hopes of building a multi-storey building. The land purchased by the developer is not and never was suitable for this type of development. The solution for the developer: ask for a land swap that takes away a community's treasured parkland and gives them a treed uphill worthless piece of land, and hope no one balks too much. What a great way to turn a tidy profit, and never have to pay fair market value for land. This is a big red flag. If council pushes through the proposed changes to the MDP and land use bylaw, against the wishes of the community and taxpayers, follow the money. I am going to ask the Gazette to publish how the mayor and each city councillor votes on this issue. All this is happening at the beginning of a four-year city council term, just like the library. The public voted not to proceed with the funding/building of a branch library. Mayor Cathy Heron decided to ignore the taxpayers and proceed anyway. Sandy Scott, St. Albert
