Re: Not very neighbourly block party
We lived on Butterfield for almost 18 years until we moved out to B.C. this spring. I have also attended the block party every year that our friends hosted it.
They are wonderful people and they combine the block party with a raffle fundraiser in which the donated money goes toward sending underprivileged kids to the movies with chaperones. This is facilitated through the Rotary Club. They also host a private Christmas party every year and have everyone bring an unwrapped toy for one of the toy drives.
I would also like to add that the author mentions that she has hosted many block parties over the years and that the entire neighborhood has been invited. I guess our invitations have been lost in the mail every single time.
I have attended this block party for several years and can attest that it is indeed a block party and everyone is invited with the exception of one individual.
Why is this person excluded? Well, as witnessed last year, her behaviour has been quite belligerent and she was asked to leave one year after an altercation. Last year said person showed up seemingly intoxicated, ranting about not being invited and was, once again, asked to leave. Parting words were something like “I'm calling the cops.”
The RCMP arrived shortly after. Once the situation was explained and the permit was shown, the police wished the hosts well and went on their way.
I'm not saying the author is the longtime resident that has been “uninvited” from this annual event but it is a longtime resident who is not welcome. I should also like to note that this is a ring road of sorts so access is not totally blocked off. There is another exit out of the neighbourhood.
