To Mayor Cathy Heron, city council and all residents of St. Albert.
The rainbow crosswalk idea (Gazette, May 12) would be a complete waste of taxpayers' money. The implemented colours of crosswalks are a safety standard: white/yellow and yellow, plus reduced speed markings at school crossings. This was done for a reason. Safety. A rainbow for whatever cause has no place as a safety marking, period.
The previous attempt at a multi-coloured crossswalk at a St. Albert intersection was a joke. It looked no better than a chalk drawing by a toddler. Surely there is a more creative and even more artistic way to represent a Pride rainbow. It is not the cause that I am against, it is the location and stupidity of the idea.
I am guessing the LGBTQ community would care for a more decent representation than a ridiculous chalk-drawn crosswalk. How about just a flag or something artful?
Also, fix the potholes and the crumbling infrastructure please.
