Being clean and green is a partnership

Our city claims to be a city of art and beauty. It also wishes to be a city that is environmentally friendly. The city demonstrates this by having the brown and green garbage bins, along with the blue-bag recycling.

I know there have been numerous complaints about this system – some people feel that it has been forced upon them, because they do not wish to separate all their waste, or whatever their reasons may be. Up until now I have felt indifferent to the system.

However, if I spend my time sorting through all that I throw away so that the city may be satisfied, I feel that it should uphold its end of the bargain by keeping the city beautiful and green, rather than allowing half of my compost bin to fall on my boulevard when the truck comes to pick it up, and if some of the compost does fall out, to pick up after themselves.

If this cannot be achieved I would have to declare our No. 1 city in Canada a hypocrite.
