In Ms. Taylor's recent published letter (Gazette, March 21), while lamenting over council's March 16 decision to award $50,000 to STARS Foundation, a provincial emergency helicopter service, she chose to launch an attack on Coun. Sheena Hughes.
What sent the executive director into celestial orbit was the speed with which the award was made; the motion was tabled in February, debated and voted at the March 16 meeting of City Council, with a 5-2 result. It is obvious that Coun. Hughes could not have entered into a backroom deal or horse traded with the four councillors who voted in favour of her motion.
Ms. Taylor believes insulted (by whom?) in that she and others in St. Albert have to observe established protocol, prepare business cases and proposals when applying for funds while STARS did not. Could it be that Ms. Taylor missed the obvious? STARS Foundation is a provincial high flyer (occasionally passing over my home) and her organization is not.
