I felt a real sense of disappointment in the councillors and mayor of our city in their vote to not give free access to public recreation facilities for 80-year-old seniors; they should be reminded that not all civic decisions are about money. Seniors have contributed to our city for many years through taxes, levies and many thousands of volunteer hours. They have played a large part in making this city what it is today.
The gesture would be one of respect, thankfulness and appreciation for what they have done and continue to do with the volunteering and taxes that they are still contributing into their 80s. It is not cherry-picking one group. It is about respecting our seniors for all they have done, like many St. Albert business owners do through discounts. In many countries and communities seniors are revered and put first. Let’s try and do the same in St. Albert.
