Further to Rob Prichards’s letter suggesting pedestrians pause, point, then proceed, which is very good advice, I would like to add “Pause, point, pay attention, then proceed.” I always taught my children to make eye contact with the driver to ensure that the driver had seen them, before they proceeded across the street.
I agree that maybe this should also be taught at school, maybe a brief refresher in every grade at the beginning of the school year?
