An absence of empathy for seniors

As a newly minted senior, I think Bert LaBuick expresses a lack of empathy and a degree of ignorance in his Oct. 27 letter to the editor about representation for seniors ( St. Albert Gazette ).

As a newly minted senior, I think Bert LaBuick expresses a lack of empathy and a degree of ignorance in his Oct. 27 letter to the editor about representation for seniors (St. Albert Gazette). He suggests that seniors should “get off your duff and do something.”

I would suggest that most seniors have spent their entire life to date “off their duff” with family, work and community, and of course the taxes that have paid for the infrastructure that Bert LaBuick takes advantage of on a daily basis.

He obviously thinks that seniors have the wealth and mobility to donate money to politics or go door to door for campaigning. I would suggest that he makes an effort to spend some time with a senior to understand their reality.
