Affordable housing not very affordable in St. Albert

Can we just talk about affordable housing in St.

Can we just talk about affordable housing in St. Albert? Or are we just pushing this under the rug? How is it that a single parent who works two jobs to afford rent plus after-school sports is able to do this?

Community services budget for organizations like the Housing Society is down 50 per cent from last year. The average ONE bedroom apartment is $1,650 a month. So is St. Albert forcing those with low income out?

I'm glad to have a job sufficient to pay for this, ALONE. But what does this tell the rest of the community? "We're glad to have you work here, but otherwise you can leave." What about the single mothers or FATHERS trying to live in an amazing and safe community? There are no social services here. You have to prove that you have lived here for six months, and that the cost for rent is too high, to even qualify for aid. And then it's six months until you are approved.

How about we stop painting the street parking on Perron Street for two years, and put that money into helping people who want to live in a safe and caring community.
