Many hands helped school playground project

Sir Alexander Mackenzie School has finally completed another phase of their playground project. Mayor Cathy Heron attended her first official ribbon cutting as mayor among eager students and chilly winds. Her personalized words about growing up in the neighborhood and playing at SAM School playground were touching. Stanley Haroun, newly appointed SAPS trustee, also shared words about the parties involved in funding the playground, especially the contribution by the students' parents. It was heart-warming to see the kids rush into the playground after listening so patiently and see their joy in moving and playing. I wish I could hug every parent and staff member that showed up for an hour or twenty hours – every feat and word of support was appreciated. Thanks to the Province of Alberta and the City of St. Albert for their financial support through grants and cooperative efforts. Businesses such as Twisted Landscaping, Jil's Landscaping, Northstar Equipment Rentals, and GD Bobcat came to our aid when we needed favours. Through grassroots fundraising and a lot of sweat, this playground was finally built. It is an amenity that not only SAM students will use but it is accessible to a large number of user groups within and around the school. It has added value to our community due to the generosity and hard work of families that care. Kari DeChamplain-Pipella, St. Albert
