Why do we have to be for or against the library ? Can we not save for a new library ? Why do we need to borrow and put ourselves further in debt ?
My suggestion: create a progressive library fund. Contribute to this fund in various ways like fundraisers, taxes, operating savings, and provincial contributions. In this manner we would only need to absorb the operating costs and not the capital costs in our taxes.
The second library is a nice to have. It does not fall under must haves like hospitals, schools, police, fire services, roads, or ambulances. We should save for our nice to haves. Pay ourselves first.
