Cory and Carmal Huppie, owners/operators of True North Heating and Cooling, are dedicated to providing clients with expert customer service and top-of-the-line products. Services include maintenance along with repair and installation of furnaces, air conditioners, garage heaters, hot water tanks, and whole home filtration and humidification.
When True North opened in 2012, Cory had more than a decade of residential, commercial, and industrial HVAC experience, along with journeyman tickets from NAIT and SAIT (certified master gasfitter, Red Seal refrigeration & AC mechanic). Carmal, attended Grant MacEwan and brought professional management experience, human resources, and marketing to the brand.
“The business was started with a strong commitment to doing things the right way, to not waiver from our principals for the sake of making a sale,” explain the Huppies. “We started the business with the family truck that we had decaled, a used van we had purchased on a credit card, a brand-new phone number, no pre-existing clients whatsoever, and a newborn baby on our hip. It was a 24/7/365 adventure working in an industry that technically never closes.”
Their hard work and customer dedication quickly grew the company.
“Fast forward to thousands of furnaces and air conditioners later, five business awards, and an amazing team – we are very, very grateful and humbled that True North Heating and Cooling is strong, healthy and has been able to maintain what was so fundamentally important to us from the very beginning,” they say
Just how passionate are Cory and Carmal about HVAC service? Well – they have a son named Lennox; a nod to being a premium dealer for the Lennox brand.
“This name, to us, is more then just a furnace or an air conditioner. The name Lennox is a symbol of strength and staying power. Lennox as a company has been around longer than any other brand and continues to push this industry forward. To us Lennox is a contributor, a creator, a very important part of who we are and what we do. This name seemed very fitting for our son.”
“When people ask, ‘what do you guys specialize in?’ we say we specialize in the customer,” Cory and Carmal continue. “We only work with residential homeowners (we do not work with builders, subcontractors, or on commercial projects). We put an emphasis on customer service; HVAC is what we do, and we do it well.”
They point out, “Just because something is working does not mean it is safe and healthy. The heart of your home is so incredibly important, but its not something homeowners see often, feel, or touch on a daily basis. So, sometimes they forget what it needs to thrive or how it can impact our lives. We know that in working with appliances that deal with gas, carbon monoxide and electrical that impact our air quality and how we feel living in our homes, it is important to be giving homeowners proper information with safety and predictability as the top priority. When businesses in our industry focus on fast and cheap, in and out, it changes the perception of our industry and ultimately is a disservice to the homeowner.”
True North is humble and proud to have won several awards over the years, but is most proud of their Alberta Business Awards Customer Service Award of Distinction. “Being in an industry not traditionally known for hospitality or customer service, we feel winning this award was very special. We put such a tremendous emphasis on customer service, and it feels amazing see the hard work pay off.”
