If you don’t know about St. Albert Public Library’s Career Resource Centre (CRC) you are missing out! The CRC is a major turning point for job seekers of all ages, be they a teen looking for their first after school job or an experienced businessperson making a career change.

“Through the CRC, we create access to the technology job searchers need,” says Geoff Manderscheid, Library Assistant and CRC Services Coordinator. “We have dedicated public computers for work searches. Users are able to print essential documents such as résumés, cover letters, certificates and job postings, free of charge. One exciting aspect of the CRC is the Résumé and Job Search Tutor Service.

Geoff explains, “With their in-depth knowledge of the current job market and their welcoming and helpful demeanors, our résumé tutors are a highlight of our CRC support. Our Résumé and Job Search Tutor Service provides the opportunity for job searchers to book free one-on-one consultations. Drawing on their experience in human resources and career counselling, our tutors evaluate résumés, cover letters and help users to develop effective interview strategies.”

Expertise is not required to use the CRC and all the resources are free. Knowing that everyone has their own unique experience with technology, the helpful staff are on hand to provide as much help as needed.

“Whether it’s navigating job banks and websites or helping to get the look and formatting of a résumé just right, CRC users will be supported by our friendly and knowledgeable staff,” says Geoff. “We understand the job search process and the tough questions that come up along the way, which is why the CRC is staffed with information specialists who are always eager to help.”

The staff of the Library are always thrilled to see CRC users and patrons achieve success.

“When we hear from a parent that their teen booked an appointment with a résumé tutor for an interview and the prep questions were asked on the interview, to know that they got the job and are full of the confidence that comes with it, that is what we love the most about providing this service!” says Geoff.

St. Albert Public Library is proud to be a valuable community resource providing services like the CRC, along with many other programs for all ages. The Library is committed to supporting economic recovery in the community, and the CRC service plays a key role in that recovery for job seekers and people wanting to develop valuable skill sets.

The CRC is made possible by the Province of Alberta working in partnership with the Government of Canada, and by the City of St. Albert, the Library’s primary funder.
