Snow Valley’s tagline choose your adventure lived up to its name during the warmer months. With the addition of the treasure sluice and target golf alongside Aerial Park, families had lots of fun all summer long. But now it’s colder out and the snow will be here soon. Snow Valley is getting ready for the skiers and snowboards. There have been some changes to make this season the best one yet!
“Snow Valley will be participating in the Restriction Exemption Program (REP),” says Tim Dea, Marketing and Communications Manager. “This ensures we can open completely, giving our guests access to every chair on the lift and dining indoors. This also means we will not have to restrict capacity on the hill, allowing more ski and snowboarding enthusiasts to access the sport they love.”
Masks will be required indoors and are recommended outdoors. To be on site guests must provide proof of vaccination, a privately-paid negative rapid test taken within 72 hours, or documentation of medical exemption. Guests can download their vaccine records and get the QR Code at https://covidrecords.alberta.ca/home. Note that double vaccinated season pass holders will only have to prove their status once.
Dea knows people are still itching to travel but many don’t feel ready to venture out of the province or country. Due to that he is expecting a larger-than-normal turnout at the hill this season, especially since sit-down indoor dining and other amenities are once again available, thanks to the REP.
“Last year we had the dining domes,” he adds. “We kept a few and converted them into cozy outdoor shelters.”
Also new for this year, skiing lessons can be booked online (or by phone). Lift tickets continue to be available online, but can also be purchased on site (under REP protocols).
One of the most exciting things to look forward to this season is the hill itself. Dea explains, “We have completed a three-year project to replace the water lines and remove the hydrants from the skiing area. Now lines and hydrants are tucked into the trees to make more space for skiers and snowboarders on the hill. It also makes our snowmaking more efficient. When it’s cold enough to make the snow, it will take less time for us to cover the hill.”
Snow Valley is ready to welcome guests back and thanks everyone for their patience and understanding. While there has been some push back against the REP, largely, everyone has been understanding.
According to Dea, “The reaction was not as bad as we thought it would be. In fact, we had companies and individuals thank us for helping to keep everyone safe. This decision was made with the big picture in mind. We understand it is not for everyone – for those that do not support it there are other hills and areas in the mountains offering different access choices. We are not cutting off snowboarding and skiing. We encourage it and want everyone to access the locations where they feel the safest. These are winter sports for everyone.
