Ridgeline Therapy provides accessible and inclusive services through couples, individual, family, sandplay, play therapy and assessments. Megan Godbeer opened Ridgeline in January 2023 to bring together her desire to provide therapy while owning and operating her own business.
Ridgeline’s play therapy is focused and unique. “Every new child puts a thumbprint on a tree we have painted in the room,” says Godbeer, “It signifies their growth and the bond between a child and therapist. They are growing, and so are we, as a new clinic. Every patient is a part of this shared journey.”
Ridgeline is also pleased to offer EMDR.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a psychotherapy technique that is commonly used to help individuals overcome the effects of traumatic experiences. During an EMDR session, the therapist leads the client through a series of eye movements or other forms of rhythmic stimulation while they recall distressing memories or experiences. This process helps to desensitize the individual to the traumatic event, reducing the intensity of their emotional response and allowing them to process the experience in a healthier way. EMDR therapy is often used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, and other mental health conditions. It is a well-established, evidence-based therapy approach that has been shown to be highly effective in helping individuals heal from trauma and move forward in their lives. More recently, EMDR has been shown to be effective in reducing performance anxiety. A clinician can utilize EMDR to help a client sit with, process, and desensitize anxiety-inducing stimuli related to performance.
Godbeer notes that therapy, be it for individuals, couples, families, etc., has numerous benefits.
“It helps with social and emotional growth and development. With children, therapy helps with emotional regulation, behaviour issues, and social skills. It can help couples and individuals increase communication, reduce conflict, encourage coping skills, and increase self-awareness.”
"Mental health," she continues, "is just as important as physical health. It is like seeing a doctor. Emotional issues and emotional stress can show up in your body in a physical way. As for finding a therapist, it is like finding a pair of jeans – there is no, one size fits all. Whether you choose therapy with us or another clinic, finding someone who fosters your beliefs will help build a strong therapeutic relationship."
Ridgeline prides itself on being a non-judgemental, inclusive, safe space for people from all walks of life, identities, conforming/nonconforming relationships, and more. The team celebrates diversity in its many beautiful forms and meets people “as they are.” The clinicians that work at Ridgeline Therapy acknowledge that life isn’t just Monday to Friday, that’s why they are pleased to offer evening and weekend appointments.
Godbeer thanks her team and clients, and St. Albert for all the support of her new business.
“What comes next is sustainably growing the team and supporting the people in and around the city,” she concludes.
