Energy Werx Helps Homeowners Save Energy and Live in Greater Comfort

Energy Werx provides customized solutions for home energy consumption.

Energy Werx, the national company, began in 2008 with a focus in home inspections, and evolved over time to focus exclusively on energy solutions. Energy Werx Alberta opened in August 2021, and quickly grew to a team of advisors servicing most of Alberta with advisors located in St. Albert, Edmonton, Beaumont, Calgary, Grande Prairie, and Lloydminster. Brett and Rachael Murphy are the regional owners of Energy Werx Alberta. Their backgrounds served them well to take on this new challenge of operating the business – including the fact that they designed and built their own fully off-the-grid home.

The couple started the business as a two person team and have since grown it to a team of 12.

“We couldn’t be prouder of the team we’ve assembled here in Alberta, and for completing over 2,000 pre-evaluations in the course of 18 months, plus about half as many post-evaluations and counting!” say Brett and Rachael.

They go on to describe Energy Werx Alberta’s services:

“Our most popular service is the EnerGuide evaluation, which is a full home assessment with both a pre- and post-retrofit evaluation. An EnerGuide evaluation is required in order to qualify for available government rebate and financing programs, such as the Canada Greener Homes Grant, the City of St. Albert’s Home Energy Efficiency Grant and the Clean Energy Improvement Program.

“Another service we provide is a thermal imaging assessment, in which the advisor uses a thermal imaging camera to assess the client’s home for hot/cold spots, moisture damage, etc. It can be added on to an EnerGuide evaluation or used as a stand alone tool.

“We are also certified with ENERGY STAR for new homes and can work with builders to have their homes ENERGY STAR certified. Homeowners are eligible for a 15 per cent refund off of their CMHC insurance premium for purchasing an ENERGY STAR certified home or for purchasing and improving the energy efficiency of their home by the prescribed targets of the CMHC Greener Homes program.”

Energy Werx Alberta’s dedication to eco-friendly solutions and customer service have not gone unnoticed. Brett says, “National head office issues awards for recognition nationwide. This year, two of our Alberta team members were honoured: Matthew Ingvardsen was awarded The Mike Bryson Memorial Award for Advisor Excellence (out of 114 advisors nationwide) and Rachael was awarded the Business Unit Support Person of the Year.”

Rachael adds, “We’d like to thank the amazing team we’ve assembled here in Alberta and all of the clients who have chosen to go with Energy Werx for their evaluations. We can’t thank you enough for putting your trust in us. We hope to always exceed your expectations!”

Looking ahead, Energy Werx Alberta hopes to grow in the ENERGY STAR for New Homes market. Rachael and Brett conclude, “There are really exciting advantages available for building homes to meet ENERGY STAR standards, including a 15% refund off of CMHC insurance premiums for home buyers, an up to a 20 per cent more efficient home. A better air-sealed home results in a reduction of dust, pollen and pests getting inside, and an overall higher level of comfort. For builders, they can really set themselves apart by offering ENERGY STAR certified homes, offering these key advantages to their buyers and building homes with a whole new level of efficiency. Buyers get the peace of mind that their home’s energy rating has been certified by a third party (the Registered Energy Advisor) using software to precisely model the entire home’s components, as well as a blower door test on site to verify the home’s air sealing value.”
