École La Mission is a Francophone school in St. Albert with outstanding, inclusive programming for learners from kindergarten through to grade four. An on-site playschool/pre-school, La boîte à surprises, complements the school and introduces children to a French education.
“As a Francophone school, we, along with guidance and input from the school board, the Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord, build up cultural and French identity through music, presentations, and varied programming,” says Marielle Perich, Principal.
The school’s territory includes St. Albert, North West Edmonton and Sturgeon County. Once the primary years are completed, students wishing to pursue their Francophone education have the opportunity to attend their sister school, École Alexandre Tâché which offers students a Francophone grade five to grade twelve education.
As the only elementary Francophone school in the area, École La Mission and the Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord want to ensure as many students as possible have access to a Francophone education. This is why this Catholic school offers the choice between Religion and Ethics courses from grades one to grades four.
“All the programming we offer,” Marielle continues, “is based on the academic, social, and individual needs of our students. We also offer a sports academy and provide parents with the option of before and after school care offered by the C.E.P.P. We ensure our students are engaged in a wide range of both school and community activities”.
École La Mission offers a Francophone education based on the Government of Alberta’s Program of Studies, which includes French and English languages, mathematics, social studies, science, health, music, art, physical education, religion, ethics and technology.
Programs are delivered by teachers and staff that receive ongoing professional development in order to offer the best educational experience to meet the diverse needs of a multi-national school population. Parents and students seeking a Francophone school can expect robust education that encompasses academic, physical, and social skills – skills that will benefit the student for life.
Marielle concludes, “At École La Mission, our mission above all is to create a stimulating and supportive environment allowing our students to thrive and excel. All staff members are dedicated to the academic and social success of each student. We are a dynamic, skilled and competent team in which the spirit of cooperation prevails. Collaboration is the key to success. That is why we believe that parents, with the school team, share the responsibility for our children’s future. Our school community is one where students, teachers, guardians, and all other participants have a shared voice and a shared responsibility in ensuring a successful educational journey".
