Dylan Tilander considers his age (18), his ambition and his entrepreneurial sprit to be his greatest assets. This youthful enthusiasm led him to open a successful business called Dialed Auto Detailing.
“I opened my business in 2020,” Tilander explains. “I had a job auto detailing that summer. I really liked it and was good at it. My parents have an auto shop and offered me a bay to start my own company. I saw it as a way to do what I loved while being my own boss – taking charge of my own future and dreams while still having the flexibility to pursue post secondary education and other interests.”
Currently, Dialed Auto Detailing offers interior and exterior auto cleaning, polishing and waxing. Tilander is pleased to offer Ceramic Coating, the latest in car wax technology. “In a few years I plan to venture into wrapping and tinting too,” confirms Tilander.
He loves what he does, but he is realistic about the challenges of being an entrepreneur and is very thankful for all the support he has had along the way.
“Growing up around my parent’s business and being offered a place in their shop gives me and advantage that I am very thankful for. And, due to my age, many of the mechanic shops I reached out to when I started my company have been happy to provide information, leads and mentorship. Starting a business straight out of high school is a huge learning curve, but being able to have control over my life as an entrepreneur helps me achieve work/life balance. I look forward to attending business school at some point in the future.”
As his business grows, Tilander also looks forward to community giving and sponsoring a local minor hockey team. Meanwhile, he is enjoying the challenges and rewards of small business ownership, while earning a living doing what he loves.
“I’d like to say a big thank you to my parents,” continues Tilander. “They helped me set up the business while empowering me to learn along the way. Without their support, the business would not be where it is today.” He goes on to thank the business community for its support, his growing client base, the people that left great reviews and spread the world on social media, and St. Albert’s Neighbours of Botanic Park magazine for featuring him on the cover.
Tilander concludes, “I’m very excited about the direction of the company as the future sees Dialed Auto Detailing move into more polishing, paint and exterior work. I aim to be in the top tier for quality work on high-end cars and I see that I am getting there,” he smiles and adds, “slowly!”
