Debbie Johnstone, the woman behind this counselling service, brings to the table over 20 years of hands-on experience in the front lines of the criminal justice and mental health systems.

"I’ve always had an interest in working with people. I developed an absolute passion for meeting people, holding space and walking alongside them on their journeys,” she notes.

In her journey as a Registered Clinical Social Worker, Debbie has dedicated her career to supporting individuals, couples, families, and teens. Her approach is tailored to the unique needs of each client, as she believes that every person has a story that deserves to be heard.

Debbie's commitment to bringing about positive change and fostering personal growth in her clients is evident in her extensive training. She holds certifications in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Motivational Interviewing.

She notes, "Counselling should be accessible and available to everyone. Sometimes we might not know what we want to change. Counselling can be exploring that together. Don’t be afraid to sit in and experience discomfort. Much of life has uncomfortable moments and leaning into the discomfort is ok."

Debbie’s counselling services are not limited by time or day, with sessions available during daytime and evening hours, and on both Saturdays and Sundays. She is a registered therapist in Alberta and Ontario, and an approved provider for active military personnel, first responders, and veterans. She also offers direct billing through most insurance providers.

"I have a belief in the capacity for change.... always!” she smiles.

Here are some compelling reasons to consider embarking on a counselling journey:

  • Self-Discovery: Counselling provides a safe space for you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. It can help you gain deeper insights into who you are and understand the root causes of your challenges.
  • Manage Stress: Modern life can be full of stressors. Counselling can equip you with effective strategies to manage stress and prevent it from adversely affecting your mental and physical health.
  • Improve Relationships: Whether it's with family, friends, or romantic partners, counselling can help improve your relationships by enhancing communication skills, resolving conflicts, and fostering understanding and empathy.
  • Cope with Life Transitions: Major life changes, such as moving, changing jobs, or losing a loved one, can be challenging. A counsellor can provide support and guidance during these transitions, helping you navigate them with resilience.
  • Heal from Trauma: If you've experienced traumatic events, counselling can offer a path to healing. Therapies like Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) are especially effective in treating trauma.
  • Overcome Anxiety and Depression: Counselling can provide effective techniques to manage symptoms of anxiety and depression, improving your mental health and well-being.
  • Boost Self-Esteem: By addressing negative beliefs and thought patterns, counselling can help boost your self-esteem and confidence, enabling you to lead a more fulfilling life.
  • Develop Coping Skills: We all face challenges and setbacks. Counselling can help you develop robust coping mechanisms to deal with life's ups and downs.
  • Promote Personal Growth: Counselling isn't just for times of crisis. It can also be a powerful tool for personal development, helping you set and achieve personal goals, improve emotional intelligence, and foster a sense of self-actualization.
  • Support During Illness: If you're dealing with a chronic illness or serious medical condition, counselling can provide emotional support, help you cope with the realities of your situation, and guide you in managing stress and anxiety related to your health.

Remember, seeking help is not a sign of weakness but a testament to your strength and commitment to self-improvement. Counselling is an investment in your mental health and overall well-being.

Debbie Johnstone Counselling is more than just a therapy service. It's a place where you can come as you are, in your most authentic form, and embark on a journey of exploration, self-discovery, and personal growth under the guidance of an experienced and compassionate professional.

As you navigate the challenges of life, remember that Debbie is here to walk alongside you, offering understanding, compassion, and the tools you need to foster positive change and personal growth.
