Active Initiatives to Support the Sturgeon Community Hospital and Front Line Medical Workers Across Canada

As we come to terms with these unprecedented times, front line medical workers locally, provincially and nationally are faced with additional challenges – and the community wants to help.

The Sturgeon Community Hospital Foundation (SCHF) is touched by the outpouring of support and has several initiatives it has launched or is involved in so that everyone has the opportunity to help.

“At this critical time, your support of the Sturgeon Community Hospital is needed now more than ever. Donor contributions allow patients to receive medical care that is vital to timely diagnosis, treatment and recovery in the fight against COVID-19,” says Katrina Black, President & CEO, SCHF.

COVID Pandemic

The Foundation is seeking donations to support the acquisition of urgently needed medical equipment to care for patients and assist the hospital’s front line staff during this time. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused the dramatic need for additional equipment. Isolation carts, vital sign monitors, ECG machines and crash carts are just a few examples of the critical equipment needed.

Another challenge is communication for patients. In the interest of safety, the Sturgeon Community Hospital is limiting visitors and rigorously screening everyone that comes in. This means many patients are missing vital connection with their loved ones – connection that helps improve their morale and healing. Acquisition of iPads for patients will allow them to connect with their loved ones remotely, easing their loneliness and improving their mental wellbeing. Share Your Heart Campaign

Draw, craft, or create a heart. Display it in your window so front line medical personnel can be encouraged as they drive through your neighbourhood. Share your “heart”work on social media using the hashtag #FoundationsOfGratitude and tag @SturgeonCHF. This is how to say thank you remotely to those putting their lives on the line. You can also mail your hearts to us and we will post them throughout the hospital.

The Frontline Fund

More than 100 hospital foundations, including SCHF, across Canada are part of The Frontline Fund. Canadians that donate to the fund are supporting a wide variety of needs across the country including supplies, supports, and research. The goal of the Fund is to provide Canadians with an easy, streamlined way to support hospitals during this challenging time. To learn more, visit frontlinefund.ca.

Katrina notes, “We know our donors and sponsors have been impacted by the economic downfall and we are extremely sensitive to that. Yet, people continue to call asking how they can help. The initiatives in place allow everyone to remotely continue to assist front line workers in hospitals locally and abroad. Please know that, be it a positive message or a donation, all efforts make an incredible difference, and we thank you for your support.”
