SAPEC junior high volleyball finals and Mission ringette tournament action

SAPEC finals

The rematch of the 2018 Tier I girls’ city final in St. Albert Physical Education Council junior high volleyball swings into action Thursday at Bellerose Composite High School.

The first serve is 6 p.m, between the Sir George Simpson Voyageurs (10-0, 30 GW/4 GL) and Richard S. Fowler Falcons (9-1, 27 GW/8 GL).

Last year, Simpson, seeded third in the playoffs, knocked off the undefeated Falcons 10-25, 25-11, 25-22, 25-17 for the team’s third SAPEC banner in a row and the 14th school history.

The SAPEC record for girls’ championships is 15 by the Vincent J. Maloney Marauders.

In league play Simpson swept the Falcons 25-19, 25-23, 27-25 Oct. 10.

The boys’ final at 7:45 p.m. features the winners of Tuesday’s semifinals between the Falcons (9-0, 27 GW/2 GL) and Morinville Wolves (6-3, 22 GW/13 GL) and Lorne Akins Gators (8-1, 24 GW/10 GL) versus Simpson (7-2, 21 GW/12 GL). Scores were unavailable at press time.

The Gators are the defending champions after beating the Falcons 25-11, 20-25, 22-25, 25-14, 17-15 in last year’s thriller for a SAPEC record 16th banner.

The Falcons have never won a SAPEC banner in boys’ or girls’ volleyball.
