St. Albert’s bantam and peewee teams are lining up as visitors this weekend in the Capital District Minor Football Association.
Today at 12:30 p.m. the junior varsity bantam Fury (0-3) are in Wetaskiwin to play the Warriors (2-1) in the Marv Mills Division and at 2:30 p.m. the peewee junior varsity Colts (0-4) tackle the Beaumont Bears (4-0) in nine-a-side football at Millwoods Sports Fields.
Sunday’s kickoff times at Fuhr Sports Park are 9 a.m. between the senior varsity peewee Riders (1-1) and Spruce Grove Cougars (3-0), and 11:30 a.m. for the senior varsity bantam Palmer 49ers (2-1, 114 PF/48 PA) against the Cougars (3-0, 176 PF/37 PA) in the Susan Morgan Division.
The 49ers are winners of two in a row after last weekend’s 44-7 result against the Millwoods Grizzlies (1-2) at Larry Olexiuk Field.
Kenneth Baxter, a fifth-year St. Albert Minor Football Association player, scored his first-ever touchdown by blocking a punt and recovering it in the endzone.
Quarterback Chris Ioanidis passed for more than 250 yards and three TDs and was picked off once.
Ioanidis was operating behind an banged-up offensive line that still managed to pave the way for close to 200 rushing yards and has yet to allow a sack this season.
Slotback Owen Herle scored three TDs on pass plays of 26 yards to start off the game and 60 yards on a ball deflected by the Mustangs with no time on the clock in the first half and a 40-yard run to make it 38-7.
Also producing TDs was Steph Cloutier with a 77-yard reception and runs of 12 yards by Seni Adekunle and five yards by James Nielsen.
The defence limited the Mustangs to under 10 first downs while giving up a TD towards the end of the contest.
