The St. Albert Farmers' market, which is the largest outdoor market in Western Canada, won the 2025 Readers’ Choice award for best St. Albert event.
First-year manager Jane Ilott isn’t surprised by the local support.
“Our vendors are absolutely fantastic,” said Ilott. “Buying locally is always important, and there's always something different at the market every week.”
In her first year, Ilott has been amazed by how committed the community is to the farmers market.
“Even when it's pouring rain the people of St. Albert are coming out, and enjoying themselves,” said Ilott.
“Rain doesn’t deter the people of St. Albert from visiting the market.”
Even with all the support from St. Albertans, Ilott was honoured the market won a Readers’ Choice award.
“It was fantastic to find out we won,” said Ilott. “People in St. Albert love their farmers market, and they’re proud of it. Being awarded for the best event means a lot to everyone, especially the vendors.”
The St. Albert Farmers' Market consists of 275 vendors, 10 food trucks, and 10 buskers providing a vibrant, unique experience every weekend.
“The diversity of the market is incredible,” said Ilott.
“Hopefully, we have something for everyone. The creativity of the vendors is amazing. Our motto is make it, create it, or grow it, and we really try to follow that mantra.”
They also have lots of fun for children.
“We also have something called Market Buds,” said Ilott. “They come up with the most creative things to do with the kids, it’s a great time.”
In its 43rd year, the St. Albert Farmers' Market runs every Saturday from June 7 to Oct. 11.
