Well, there’s one more sleep to go before the biggest event of St. Albert’s 150th celebration. The big Rendezvous 2011 picnic runs Sunday throughout the Red Willow Trail system, and if previous anniversary events are any indication, the picnic events will be well organized.
So far the 150th organizers have delivered winning events, right from the opening gala to the play The Black Bonspiel of Wullie MacCrimmon, the soap box derby and Meet the Street.
The hard-working anniversary committee volunteers deserve a hats off, a round of applause, and a couple hip-hip-hoorays for making this year a special one. But most of all, these volunteers deserve one more show of support from St. Albert residents.
Billed as the largest picnic ever in St. Albert, it promises to truly be an event like no other in St. Albert’s history. There are 10 venues along 9.5 kilometres of the banks of the Sturgeon River with multiple events and entertainment options — certainly something for everyone.
If that’s not enough reason to attend, the event will no doubt capture attention beyond St. Albert’s borders, so it’s in everyone’s interest to make it a success, to help boost St. Albert’s image throughout the region.
The opening ceremonies are scheduled for 11:30 a.m. at St. Albert Place and the picnic itself will run from noon to 5 p.m. The Environment Canada weather forecast is calling for a sunny day with a high of 23 C. Let’s get out there on Sunday to support these organizers and this city.
