On Wednesday, Aug. 3, the Gazette published an editorial cartoon that pondered the future of the federal NDP party now that its leader Jack Layton is engaged in a battle with cancer.
The Gazette has received a number of complaints about the cartoon, which appeared to make light of Mr. Layton's sickness. This was not the Gazette's intention and we regret having run the cartoon.
The Gazette wishes to extend our sincerest apologies to Mr. Layton, his family, supporters and anyone else who may have been offended by the cartoon. We wish Mr. Layton a full recovery and a return to politics.
