Did you know a computer provides those ‘personal touches’ to your photo radar ticket?

I was shocked when it was revealed in traffic court on Tuesday that the operator who recorded my car exceeding the posted speed limit had never actually seen the ticket I was issued until it was presented to him on cross-examination. Much to my surprise I learned photo radar tickets are solely computer generated. When I asked if the photo radar operator made the statement shown on the ticket, “I believe on reasonable and probable grounds and certify that the person named above committed the offence as indicated,” it was revealed he did not.

So it seems that in St. Albert, computers have taken to using the first person. Before we lose our system of justice to anonymous machines, I recommend the City of St. Albert should perform a virus scan of the ticketing program for misleading, unethical or amoral infections.
