I have just read Jessica Nelson’s piece (Gazette Oct. 12) re: new Premier Danielle Smith’s healthcare comments and health care spending. According to a recent study, in a period of four months, unvaccinated people, mostly in the age range of 50 to 79 years, “accounted for more than 1,000 potentially avoidable ICU bed-days and $61 million in excess healthcare costs.” In Ms. Smith’s opinion, unvaccinated people are the most discriminated-against people. It seems to me, as a vaccinated senior, that as our healthcare system slowly goes down the tubes, we vaccinated folk are bearing a burden. Isn’t that reverse discrimination?
