LETTER: Thanks to Ken Allred for column on coal

"I have hope for future generations to inherit a better world, not only a better Alberta."
letter-sta

I just wanted to thank Ken Allred for his column on coal mining in Alberta (Feb. 3 Gazette).

I, like many others, look to a future for my children and grandchildren where coal is not utilized at the levels currently being used (keeping in mind that generations before me worked to reduce the levels that they inherited).

That said, there would be no development if there was not a customer. We are that customer. We created the need with our wants and lifestyles.

We will progress, learn and develop the changes. Until that time, I prefer that the needed product comes from a region where we can hold a government’s feet to the fire on protection of the workers, and the environment.

There will be issues. We must be vigilant.

A "Not In My Back Yard" rhetoric can no longer be valid.

I have hope for future generations to inherit a better world, not only a better Alberta.
