Joan Stang beloved wife, mother, grandma, sister, aunt and friend passed away on July 11, 2025.
Joan was born in Edmonton on April 24, 1946 to John and Jessie Gibbs. She was married to Urban Stang on October 30, 1971. Joan started her schooling in Edmonton. After her father joined the Air Force, she moved with her family to Germany, then France, then back to Quebec where she completed her high school. She returned to Edmonton on her own to take nursing training at the Royal Alexandra Hospital and graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1968.
Joan was very devoted to marriage and family. She moved some 14 times to support Urban in his engineering career until his retirement in 2005. Her nursing background and experience was much appreciated in all the different hospitals she worked at throughout her career.
After retirement, she joined the Catholic Women’s League and the Society of St. Vincent de Paul and remained active with both organizations and with the Church in St. Albert until her health started to fail.
Joan will be lovingly remembered by her husband Urban; son Brent (Leanne); son Colin (Anya); and grandchildren Parker, Kaitlin, Isabelle, Liam, Shawn, Grace and Sarah; brothers John and Jerel (Donna).
Joan was predeceased by her grandson Noah Zachary Stang, parents John and Jessie Gibbs, sister in-law Diane Gibbs and nephew Jason Gibbs.
A Funeral Mass will be held on July 30, 2025, at 11:00am at St. Albert Catholic Parish, 7 St. Vital Avenue, St. Albert. A private Interment of the urn will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Arthritis Society or Alzheimer’s Society of Alberta.
