Eskimos' veteran offensive lineman Simeon Rottier announces his retirement

EDMONTON — Simeon Rottier has called it a career.

The veteran offensive lineman signed a one-day contract with the Edmonton Eskimos on Friday, then officially retired.

Rottier, a 35-year-old native of Westlock, Alta., spent six seasons with Edmonton, appearing in 70 games at guard and centre. He was a CFL all-star in 2014 and the Eskimos' top offensive lineman.

The six-foot-six, 295-pound Rottier was the first player taken in the 2009 CFL draft by the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He spent three seasons with the Ticats before joining the Eskimos in 2012.

Rottier signed with the Saskatchewan Roughriders during the '18 season.
