WINDHOEK, Namibia — Captain Davy Jacobs scored 52 runs in a losing cause Saturday as Canada lost to Hong Kong by seven wickets in ICC World Cricket League Division 2 play.
The top four teams in the six-team tournament will earn one-day international status and join Scotland, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates in the newly formed ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 where they will play 36 ODIs each over a two-and-a-half year period.
The bottom two will enter the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup Challenge League A and B.
After winning the toss, Canada elected to bat and made 222 for eight in its 50 overs. Opener Navneet Dhaliwal and No. 3 Srimantha Wijeyeratne had a partnership of 82 before both men were dispatched with 44 runs each.
Hong Kong's Kinchit Shah took a hat trick with the final three balls of Canada's innings.
Captain Anshuman Rath led the Hong Kong batting attack with an unbeaten 114 from 150 balls, including six fours and one six. Hong Kong reached the victory total in 47.2 overs.
Canada (0-1-0) faces Oman (1-0-0) on Sunday.
