For the week of March 16 to 23, 2018

There may still be snow on the ground, but Spring is officially here! Say goodbye to old man Winter by getting out and finding new opportunities! The St. Albert Community Information & Volunteer Centre has many volunteer opportunities to choose from and can help find the right fit for you.

Tool Library manager

Do you know a thing or two about tools? Assist the new St. Albert Tool Library for three to four hours on a Thursday night from 6 to 9 p.m. in a sea can at Grace Family Church parking lot. You will be working alongside a board member, or two, learning how to run the tool inventory system to check tools in and out to residents borrowing them. You would also need to inspect tools to make sure they are in working order and shelving them, as well as taking in donations. If you can’t work Thursdays but are interested in another shift please let us know. With enough people they will be able to open the library a couple of times a week. Must be 18 or older.

International Children’s Festival
Be part of a fun festival that inspires and ignites the imaginations of the young and young at heart. This is a great opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills, and share a magical experience with over 55,000 children and families. Assist with performances, crafts, hospitality, green team, and tons of other opportunities! No experience necessary. Festival runs May 29 to June 3 in St. Albert.

Casino volunteer

Do you love the casino? Support the Canadian Cancer Society by volunteering at the Casino Yellowhead. Money raised through the casino will contribute to funding cancer research and supporting programs. Help them by volunteering at their fundraising casino Monday, April 9. This casino takes place at the Casino Yellowhead in Edmonton.

St. Albert Rotary Music Festival
Do you love music? Help to promote the appreciation of, and participation in, the performing arts in our community by volunteering with the St. Albert Rotary Music Festival, April 4 to 14. Assist with processing participants’ registration, completing forms or monitoring doors at the venues throughout St. Albert. Assistance also needed in the festival office. Shifts are Monday through Friday, mornings, afternoons, or evenings, and are flexible. Minimum age to volunteer is 21. There will be an orientation on March 31.

50/50 ticket seller
Help fight cancer by volunteering as a 50/50 ticket seller at Rogers Place to raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society. The anticipated impact of this event is to raise around $10,000, which will go towards cancer research and Canadian Cancer Society programs. The game is on Friday, April 6 at Rogers Place. Minimum age to volunteer is 18.

Homeless Count Edmonton, enumerator
Everyone counts, and this is your opportunity to make sure that everyone is counted! Homeward Trust Edmonton is recruiting volunteers to assist in the 2018 Homeless Count initiative on Wednesday, April 11 from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Thursday, April 12 from 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. A homeless count is a collective effort to learn and to generate awareness about the scope and experience of homelessness in a community. Volunteers will fan out across the city on predetermined routes in pairs and administer responses to a survey designed to gather information from people they encounter about their experience of homelessness over the course of their shift.

Relay for Life committee member
You can play a vital role in the fight against cancer! As a committee volunteer, you will be a community leader working towards raising awareness and funds for the fight against all cancers. Together with like-minded community members, you will be helping to plan and organize the St. Albert Relay for Life event. Time commitment involves committee meetings once or twice a month and a few hours of work per month outside of the meetings. Event takes place on Saturday, June 9.
