Women's and men's rugby matches, midget A lacrosse playoffs and senior AA Cardinals baseball

Women’s rugby Tonight’s division two women’s match against the LA Crude kicks off at 7 p.m. at St. Albert Rugby Football Club.

Women’s rugby

Tonight’s division two women’s match against the LA Crude kicks off at 7 p.m. at St. Albert Rugby Football Club.

The host SARFC team is 2-0 (127 PF/36 PA) and the Crude, last year’s Edmonton Rugby Union champions, are 2-1 (100 PF/39 PA).

Last weekend in the Alberta premier women’s league, SARFC (2-2, 142 PF/120 PA) lost 57-19 to the first-place Hornets (5-2, 360 PF/192 PA) in Calgary. Tries were 9-3 for the Hornets.

The next premier match is July 5 against the host Nor’Westers (0-5) at 7 p.m.

Midget A Rams

The midget A double-knockout playoff round for the St. Albert Rams in the Greater Edmonton Lacrosse Council starts tonight at Bill Hunter Arena.

Ball drop is 6 p.m. between the first-place Rams (12-4-1) and fourth-place Sherwood Park Titans (4-11-3).

Depending on the result, the Rams play the Parkland Posse (10-6-1) or Edmonton Warriors (8-7-2) July 4 in the semifinal or in the B bracket at 6 or 7:30 p.m. at George Hughes Arena.

The final is July 10 at 7:30 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena and the second game, if needed, is July 11 at 9 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.

In league scoring, Mathieu Gautier finished second in goals (32) and points (51 in 16 games) and Alex Sorochan led all players in assists (25 in 14 games).

Luigi Benincasa (20 goals, 40 points in 16 games) and Ronin Pusch (21 goals, 38 points in 16 games) ranked fourth and fifth, respectively, in the scoring race.

Men’s rugby

Division two men’s rugby scrums down Thursday between the St. Albert Rugby Football Club and LA Crude.

Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. at Leduc.

SARFC is 0-5 (106 PF) in ERU one and the Crude are 4-1 (190 PF/138 PA) in ERU two of the Edmonton/Calgary interlocking league.

The last match for SARFC was the 20-13 loss to the Strathcona Druids (1-4, 73 PF/213 PA) June 15 at Lynn Davies Rugby Park.

NCABL Cardinals

The senior AA St. Albert Cardinals and the Edmonton Blackhawks hook up Friday in the North Central Alberta Baseball League.

First pitch is 7:15 p.m. at Edmonton Professional Park.

The Cardinals were 8-4 for third place in the eight-team standings before hosting the Stony Plain Mets (8-3-1) Tuesday. The score was unavailable at press time.

Last week the Cardinals clipped the Blackhawks (9-5-1) 14-3 in Edmonton.
