Slash homestand
A four-game homestand for the midget AAA St. Albert Slash continues tonight in the Alberta Female Hockey League.Faceoff is 8:15 p.m. against the Edmonton Pandas (7-14) at Go Auto Arena.
Saturday the two-time defending Esso Cup national champions host the Lloydminster Steelers (17-4-1) at 7:45 p.m.
The Slash (16-1-1) are one point behind the first-place Steelers with four games in hand after kicking off four in a row on home ice last weekend in the 4-2 decision against the Red Deer Chiefs (7-12-3).
The visitors struck twice in the opening six minutes and the second goal was scored on the power play.
Madison Willan replied with her league-high 19th goal at 17:31 in the first, followed by Mackenzie Kordic at 12:43 and Jaden Bogden at 19:40 in the second and Isabelle Lajoie at 3:48 in the third.
Holly Borrett (9-0, 0.78 GAA) faced 16 shots while the Slash racked up 38 shots.
Sharks at home
First place is on the line tonight in the midget elite north division of the Alberta Female Hockey League between the St. Albert Sharks and Sherwood Park Fury.Puck drop is 8:45 p.m. at Troy Murray Arena.
The second-place Fury (10-1-3) have two games in hand on the Sharks (11-5) for the division lead.
Previous results were 4-2 and 4-0 for the Fury.
The teams clash again Jan. 19 at 5:30 p.m. in Sherwood Park.
The Sharks started off the new year with wins of 4-0 and 3-1 against the Peace Country Storm (8-6-1) at Grande Prairie.
Laney Pasemko (4-2, 1.67 GAA) stopped 21 shots for her second shutout and the team’s fourth of the season as Sykora Thornton (shorthanded) Marissa Steinke, Regan Ackroyd and Libby Langenhahn scored in the weekend opener.
Layla Hood (7-3, 1.60 GAA) faced 16 shots while Aidan Soltis (power play), Katie Charko and Langenhahn (empty net) provided the offence in game two.
Bantam AA game
Tonight’s bantam AA game between the Comets and Elite Pro Marketing Blues starts at 7:45 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.The St. Albert teams crossed paths in early December with the Blues winning 4-2.
Ten points separate the Blues (10-8-2), tied for third, and the seventh-place Comets (3-12-6) in the blue division of the Edmonton Rural Bantam AA Hockey League.
The St. Albert Bears (12-6-2) sit second and the Sherwood Park Leafs (13-3-3) are first in the division standings.
