The 20th annual Turkey Ring signals the start of the season for the host St. Albert Ringette Association.

SARA is represented by 21 teams in the U10-1, U10-2, U10-3, U12A, U12B, U12C, U14AA, U14A, U14B, U16AA, U16A, U16B, U19A and U19B age divisions.

Overall, 74 teams are competing in 127 games over four days at Go Auto, Mark Messier, Troy Murray, Akinsdale, Kinex, Riviere Qui Barre and Canadian Athletic Club arenas.

Sunday’s finals are as follows:

8 a.m. in U12C at Go Auto;

11:45 a.m. in U16B at Mark Messier;

12:30 p.m. in U12A at Go Auto;

1:15 p.m. in U14AA at Mark Messier;

1:45 p.m. in U10-3 at Troy Murray;

2 p.m. in U14B at Go Auto;

2:45 p.m. in U10-2 at Mark Messier;

3:15 p.m. in U16A at Troy Murray;

5 p.m. in U12B at Go Auto;

6:30 p.m. in U19A at Go Auto.

Monday’s finals are as follows:

10:15 a.m. in U19B at Mark Messier;

1:15 p.m. in U14A at Go Auto;

2:30 p.m. in U16AA at Mark Messier.

There is no U10-1 final.

The 2017 Turkey Ring featured 70 teams, including 19 SARA reps, and the tournament record is 78 with 27 SARA teams in 2013.

U14AA Mission

The St. Albert Mission are good to go with six returnees from the 2018 U14AA silver medallists at the western and provincial championships.

The lineup consists of two defencemen, two centres, one forward and one netminder from the team that finished 41-9-3-1 overall as the five-time silver medallists in seven tournaments and the winner of the Bernadette Price Memorial.

The roster includes seven first-year U14 players as U12A graduates and one second-year U14 who played U14A last season.

The first of five tournaments is the Turkey Ring and the Mission are one of four U14AA teams entered.

Last month at the Rusty Ring in Cochrane, a non-competitive (no medal round) pre-season affair, the Mission finished 2-1.

The next tournament is the Bernadette Price Memorial from Nov. 9 to 11 in Saskatoon.

The U14AA provincials are March 15 to 17.

This is the seventh season for the U14AA Mission in the St. Albert Ringette Association.

U16AA Mission

The St. Albert Mission skate into the Turkey Ring with eight players with U16AA experience.

The 17-player lineup also features eight first-year U16s and one second-year U16 who played U16A last season.

The Mission are among four U16AA teams competing at the Turkey Ring this weekend.

The second of five tournaments leading up to the U16AA provincials, March 15 to 17 at a location to be determined, is the Bernadette Price Memorial from Nov. 9 to 11 in Saskatoon.

The 41st annual Canadian Ringette Championships are April 7 to 13 in Charlottetown and Summerside, P.E.I.

This is the sixth season for the U16AA Mission in the St. Albert Ringette Association.

U19AA Mission

Ten players are back from the U19AA provincial finalists for the St. Albert Mission.

The team roster includes three first-year U19 players.

The Mission have tournaments on tap in Saskatoon, Edmonton, Lacombe and Ottawa before the U19AA provincials from March 15 to 17 at a location to be determined.

At the 2018 nationals in Winnipeg, the Mission closed out the round-robin portion of the 18-team tournament with one win in eight games after going 6-3-1 as the fourth-place finishers out of 16 teams while ranked second out of five Alberta teams at the 2017 nationals in Leduc.

This is the sixth season for the U19AA Mission in the St. Albert Ringette Association.
