The next metro Edmonton division one match for the Skyhawks is 5 p.m. Monday against the Salisbury Sabres at the SkyDome. The Skyhawks are also co-hosting the 24th annual Lions Western Canadian Challenge and the 24-team tournament starts 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Morinville Community High School and the SkyDome.

Midget 15 Flyers

The St. Albert Flyers skate twice this weekend in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.

Game times are 2:45 p.m. today against the PAC Saints (3-0-1) at Glenn Hall Centennial Arena and 7:45 p.m. Sunday against the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers (1-2) at JRC Arena.

The midget 15 Flyers are 3-0 (17 GF/11 GA) to start the season.

Hawks volleyball

The St. Albert Skyhawks host Monday’s metro Edmonton volleyball doubleheader.

The Skyhawks swing into action at 5 p.m. against the division one women’s Salisbury Sabres (3-4) and 6:30 p.m. against the division two men’s Mother Margaret Mary Storm (2-5).

The Skyhawks are 3-4 for the women and 0-7 for the men.

The Skyhawks are also co-hosting the 24th annual Lions Western Canadian Challenge with the Morinville Wolves.

This is the fourth consecutive year the WCC consists of 24 teams after previous 48-team tournaments.

Pool play starts 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Morinville Community High School and the SkyDome.

The 12-team men’s and women’s divisions are divided into two pools to determine the championship and consolation playoff brackets.

Last year, the Wolves, 3A provincial silver medallists, repeated as the men’s champions and the St. Joseph Ceniahs of Grande Prairie won the women’s title.

Midget AA games

The St. Albert Source for Sports Crusaders and Maple Leafs face off Monday in the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League.

Puck drop is 8:30 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.

The last game for the Crusaders (1-1-1) was Tuesday’s 2-2 draw with the Sturgeon Sting (1-1-1) in St. Albert.

Joshua Cyr and Maddux Nollski scored third-period goals and Evan Hergott stopped 23 shots for the defending league champions.

Friday the St. Albert Blues (2-1) played the Leduc Roughnecks (2-0-1) in St. Albert but the score was unavailable at press time.

The Blues are back on the ice Oct. 21 against the PAC Saints at 7 p.m. at Tri Leisure Centre.

The second victory in a row for the Blues was 4-2 against the host Fort Saskatchewan Rangers (1-1) Sunday.

Brady Harroun potted three goals and assisted on the winner by Jayden Antunes late in period two.

Brett Reiter also picked up three assists and Kyle Nelson faced 37 shots.
