Flyers at home
The St. Albert Flyers skate into Friday’s home game with consecutive losses in the Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League.Faceoff is 8:15 p.m. against the KC Centennials (0-22) at Troy Murray Arena.
The midget 15 Flyers (17-5-3) dropped two in a row for the first time this season by scores of 3-2 against the PAC Saints (20-2-2) last Wednesday in St. Albert and 5-2 against CRAA Gold (12-10-4) Saturday in Calgary.
The results left the second-place Flyers five points behind the north-division leading Saints with one less game played.
Chase Visser scored both goals in Calgary for 19 in 25 games.
The Gold struck twice on the power play and the fifth goal was an empty netter.
Shots were 27 apiece and Ethan Kadatz (9-3-1, 2.74 GAA) was in net.
The Flyers, 4-3-1 in eight games, were missing three defencemen and one forward for the contest.
Slash games
The midget AAA St. Albert Slash concludes a four-game homestand Saturday in the Alberta Female Hockey League.Puck drop is 2:15 p.m. against the Red Deer Chiefs (8-12-3) at Go Auto Arena.
The Slash (18-1-1) are winners of eight straight in St. Albert after losing the home opener 4-1 to the second-place Lloydminster Steelers (17-5-1) Oct. 14.
Sunday the Slash travel to play Calgary Fire (12-7-3) at 2:30 p.m. at Max Bell Centre.
The 11th victory in a row for the Slash was 5-3 against the Steelers on Jan. 12.
The two-time defending Esso Cup national champions have eight games remaining after this weekend before hosting the AFHL provincial Final Frozen Four and the winner of the March 22 to 24 tournament hosts the best-of-three Pacific Region national qualifier against the British Columbia champion.
The Esso Cup is April 21 to 27 at Sudbury, Ont.
Midget AA action
The next home game for the St. Albert Blues is Friday in the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League.Start time is 8:45 p.m. against the Camrose Vikings (14-7-2) at Mark Messier Arena.
Sunday the Blues (10-9-4) visit the PAC Saints (5-8-5) at 2:30 p.m. at Grant Fuhr Arena.
The Blues are 3-2 this month after going 3-3-1 in December.
The 2018 NAMHL champion St. Albert Source for Sports Crusaders (20-3-2) are winners of five straight when the first-place team plays the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers (9-10-3) Sunday at 1:15 p.m. at Dow Centennial Centre.
The Crusaders are 12-1 since battling the Blues to a 1-1 draw Nov. 16.
