Sabres at home
The St. Albert Gregg Distributors Sabres continue a four-game homestand this weekend in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League.The Sabres host the Calgary Bisons (11-4-2) today at 1:45 p.m. and the Calgary Flames (11-4-3) Sunday at 10:45 a.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
The last game for the Sabres before the Christmas break is next Saturday against the Fort Saskatchewan Rangers (12-2-3) at 1:45 p.m. at the Akinsdale rink.
The Sabres had won two straight and four of their last five games before Friday’s contest against the Sherwood Park Flyers (10-8) in St. Albert. The score was unavailable at press time.
Raiders action
The St. Albert Netkar Raiders skate at Bill Hunter Arena today in the Alberta Midget AAA Hockey League.Faceoff is 2:30 p.m. against the Maple Leafs (0-21-1).
Sunday the Raiders travel to Lloydminster to play the Bobcats (5-13-3) at 2:15 p.m.
The Raiders (9-8-4) are 2-1-2 in the last five games as the fourth-place team in the north division.
The last game for the Raiders before the Mac’s Midget AAA World Invitational Tournament starts Boxing Day in Calgary is Wednesday against the Southside Athletic Club at 7:45 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena.
Fans are encouraged to bring new toys or items for the St. Albert Food Bank to the team's annual Christmas charity drive game and collection boxes will be located in the rink lobby.
Midget AA games
Monday the St. Albert Source for Sports Crusaders visit the PAC Saints in the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League.Puck drop is 7:15 p.m. at Grant Fuhr Arena.
Entering the weekend, the Crusaders (13-2-2) ranked first and the Saints (4-5-5) were last in the Besa division.
The defending NAMHL champions were winners of five in a row while going 8-0-1 in the last nine games before hosting the Sherwood Park Oilers (9-5-2) Friday. The score was unavailable at press time.
Carter Albrecht was the top scorer on the Crusaders with 13 goals and 21 points while serving a team-high 89 penalty minutes.
Meanwhile, the next game for the St. Albert Blues (7-6-3) is Friday against the Oilers at 8:45 p.m. at Mark Messier Arena.
The Blues are coming off a 9-0 shutout of the host Leduc Roughnecks (7-7-3) Tuesday.
Kyle Nelson faced 29 shots, including a penalty shot in period two, while the Blues capitalized five times on the power play.
The Blues are led offensively by Brady Harroun’s 12 goals and Brett Reiter’s 21 points.
