The St. Albert Ringette Association rings in the season with the 19th annual Turkey Ring. The four-day 128-game tournament starts 7:30 a.m. Friday and the last game is 4 p.m. Monday. Games are scheduled for the Go Auto, Mark Messier, Troy Murray, Akinsdale, Kinex, Riviere Qui Barre and Canadian Athletic Club arenas. Seventy teams, including 19 from SARA, are entered. The age divisions are U10 (Step 1, 2 and 3), petite (U12A, U12B and U12C), tween (U14A, U14AA and U14B), junior (U16A, U16AA and U16B) and belle (U19A and U19B). The feature game at the Turkey Ring is Friday’s U19AA clash between the St. Albert Mission and Edmonton Elite at 6:45 p.m. at Mark Messier Arena. At the 2017 nationals in Leduc, the Mission finished fourth and the Elite placed fifth. Last year’s Turkey Ring featured 66 teams, with 20 from SARA, and the 2015 tournament consisted of 69 teams and 22 SARA reps. The Turkey Ring record for teams is 78, including 27 SARA entries, in 2013.
