Turkey Ring
The St. Albert Ringette Association celebrates the 20th edition of the Turkey Ring with 74 teams confirmed for next weekend’s tournament.SARA is represented by 21 teams, and the age divisions are U10-1, U10-2, U10-3, U12A, U12B, U12C, U14AA, U14A, U14B, U16AA, U16A, U16B, U19A and U19B.
The tournament starts Friday morning and ends late Monday afternoon.

Last year’s Turkey Ring featured 70 teams, including 19 SARA reps, competing in 128 games at seven St. Albert and area arenas over four days.
The Turkey Ring record for teams is 78, with 27 SARA entries, in 2013.
Meanwhile, SARA is gearing up to host the 2019 Western Canadian Ringette Championships.
Teams from the four western provinces in the U14AA, U16A, U19A and 18-plus A divisions will compete for medals from March 27 to 30.
The 2018 westerns in Saskatoon consisted of 10 U14AA teams, including five from Alberta, five U16A teams, five U19A teams and five 18-plus A teams. Each division included a host team.
The St. Albert Mission were the U14AA silver medallists.
Golf provincials
Brooke Brezovski of the St. Albert Skyhawks finished fourth overall out of 69 females at the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association provincial golf championships.The Grade 10 student athlete carded rounds of 76 Monday at Springbank Links Golf Course and 80 on Tuesday at River Spirit Golf Course for a two-day total of 156.
The podium finishers were Annabella Ackroyd of William Aberhart Orange at 148 (75-73), Grace Bell of National Sport School at 151 (74-77) and Jenna Bruggeman of the Strathcona Lords at 153 (72-81).
Brezovski qualified for provincials as one of three females at the Edmonton zones with the best low gross scores not on a winning team.
Brezovski’s round of 82 at the Stony Plain Golf Course on Sept. 18 was third-best overall behind Kaitlyn Wingnean (77) and Bruggeman (80) of Strathcona, the top team at zones.
Brezovski is the back-to-back winner of the ladies’ club champion at Sturgeon Valley.
Nordic golf team
Connor Ackroyd of St. Albert was among four Canadian male golfers competing in the second annual Nordic Junior Team Matches in Estonia.The Canadian lineup of Ackroyd, Will Holan of the Blackhawk Golf Club, Colby Friedrich of the North Battleford Golf & Country Club and Griffin Wilson of the Elmwood Golf & Country Club in Swift Current faced off against Finland, Sweden and Estonia at Parnu Bay Golf Links in Haademeste, Estonia.
The Canadian contingent qualified via the Maple leaf Junior Golf Tour.
Ackroyd, 18, lost in singles to Estonia, 5 and 4, and in the foursome against Finland, the Paul Kane High School graduate and Holan fell 4 and 3.
Sweden swept all three matches against the Canadians to win the championship as Canada placed fourth.
Ackroyd, a first-year member of the MacEwan University Griffins’ golf team, was the 2017 silver medallist at the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association provincials with a score of 147 (72-75) for Paul Kane at The Links in Spruce Grove and Stony Plain Golf Course.
Ackroyd is based out of the Windermere Golf & Country Club.
