High school athletes from St. Albert and Namao are zoning in on the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association track and field championships this weekend at Foote Field.
The highest-ranked junior, intermediate and senior competitors at the recent metro Edmonton zone meet qualified for the provincials.
The following athletes, listed in alphabetic order, achieved top four finishes at zones.
Jayden Best, Sturgeon Spirits: fourth, junior men’s high jump, 1.70 metres; fourth, junior men’s long jump, 5.70m.

Dillon Sharpe, Skyhawks: second, junior men’s 100m, 11.64; third, junior men’s 200m, 23.47.
Hannah Sullivan, Sturgeon: second, intermediate women’s javelin, 30.71m.
Christina Toovey, Bellerose; third, intermediate women’s 100m, 13.27.
Jacob Turpin, Bellerose: second, intermediate men’s high jump, 1.85m.
Abby Wilson, Paul Kane: first, intermediate women’s 3,000m, 11:03.26; third, intermediate women’s 1,500m, 5:12.20.
FAST TIMES: Podium finishes were recorded by a pair of St. Albert Mustangs at the recent Calgary Spring Challenge.
Murchison placed first in the women’s youth 800m (2:22.61) and 400m (1:00.63) and Ryder Horton was first in the men’s youth 400m (49.17) and second in the senior 800m (1:55.69).
Horton, an Ardrossan High School student, also finished first at zones in the intermediate men’s 400m (49.32) and 800m (1:57.94).
