Turkey Ring The 19th annual Turkey Ring is underway for 70 teams in the U10 to U19 age divisions. The host St. Albert Ringette Association is represented by 19 teams.

SLASH ACTION - Makenna Schuttler and the St. Albert Slash skate tonight against the Edmonton Pandas in the Alberta Female Hockey League. Faceoff is 7:45 p.m. at Clare Drake Arena. The Slash are 2-0 after beating the Pandas 5-1 Tuesday at Go Auto Arena. Schuttler is among 10 players back from the 2017 Esso Cup midget AAA national championship team.

Turkey Ring

The 19th annual Turkey Ring is underway for 70 teams in the U10 to U19 age divisions. The host St. Albert Ringette Association is represented by 19 teams. The 128-game schedule started Friday morning and ends Monday afternoon for U10 (Step 1, 2 and 3), petite (U12A, U12B and U12C), tween (U14A, U14AA and U14B), junior (U16A, U16AA and U16B) and belle (U19A and U19B) teams. The tournament venues are the Go Auto, Mark Messier, Troy Murray, Akinsdale, Kinex, Riviere Qui Barre and Canadian Athletic Club arenas. Visit www.stalbertringette.com for the tournament draw and results. Last year’s Turkey Ring consisted of 66 teams, plus 20 from St. Albert.

Slash game

Tonight the St. Albert Slash and Edmonton Pandas face-off for the second time in five days in the Alberta Female Hockey League. Puck drop is 7:45 p.m. at Clare Drake Arena. Tuesday the Slash (2-0) defeated the Pandas 5-1 at Go Auto Arena. Period scores were 2-0 and 4-1. The 2017 Esso Cup midget AAA national champions were led by Mckenzie Hewitt’s three goals, including a pair with the man advantage, and singles by Vanessa Verbitsky on the power play and Isabelle Lajoie. Tyra Meropoulis and Allison Reich had two assists apiece. The Pandas (0-2) struck on the power play against netminder Camryn Drever. Shots were 37-13 for the Slash. The Slash host the Red Deer Chiefs (0-0-1) Oct. 14 at 7:45 p.m. at Go Auto Arena.

Midget 15 Flyers

The next Alberta Minor Midget AAA Hockey League game for the St. Albert Flyers is Sunday in Spruce Grove. Faceoff is 1:30 p.m. between the midget 15 Flyers (0-1-1) and PAC Saints (1-0-1) at Grant Fuhr Arena. The home opener for the Flyers is Oct. 15 against the Rockyview Raiders (1-0) of Chestermere at 10:45 a.m. at Akinsdale Arena.

Midget AA Blues

The St. Albert Blues are in action Sunday in the Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League. Faceoff is 7:30 p.m. against the host Sherwood Park Oilers (0-1). The Flyers settled for a 2-2 draw in Tuesday’s season opener against SSAC Lakewood Chevrolet at Mark Messier Arena. Jake Strakowitz and Michael Iatridis (power play) scored for the Blues. The only goal in the third period was the equalizer by SSAC (1-0-1). The Blues were outshot 31-29 and Ryley Osland was in net.
