Storm at home
The last game for the St. Albert Storm in the midget spring league season kicks off today at 4:30 p.m. against the Edmonton Mustangs at Larry Olexiuk Field.Admission is $5 for 12 years and older.
The Storm (148 PF/79 PA) and North Edmonton Seahawks (174 PF/101 PA) are tied for second at 4-1 and the Mustangs (64 PF/141 PA) are among four teams at 1-4 at the bottom of the standings.
The lone loss for the Storm was 36-16 against the 5-0 Lloydminster Red Dogs (164 PF/96 PA).
Players in grades 9, 10 and 11 compete in the midget division of the Capital District Minor Football Association.
The Storm roster includes high school players from the Bellerose Bulldogs, St. Albert High Skyhawks, Paul Kane Blues and the Sturgeon Spirits, a first-year team that will huddle up in the metro Edmonton division three Gilfillan conference this fall.
Impact women
The four St. Albert Impact women’s teams in the Edmonton District Soccer Association kick-off the season fixtures with the following matches:In division 1A, Impact 4 (Murphy) plays the Edmonton Warriors today at 2 p.m. at ESA Complex and plays Monday against FC Excelsior at 7 p.m. at ESA South Complex.
Sunday’s matches in the premier division include Impact 3 (Murphy) versus Angels Scottish SC at 4 p.m. and Impact 2 (Bourbonnais/Brown) versus Victoria at 6 p.m. at ESA Complex.
Tuesday all three Impact premier teams are back on the pitch: Impact 2 against Wind and Impact 3 against Northwest United at 6:30 p.m. at ESA Complex and Impact 1 (Spaidal) against Hearts United at 7 p.m. at Avalon field.
Men’s soccer
The division 1A St. Albert Rangers and division 2A St. Albert Impact men's teams make their season debuts next week in the Edmonton District Soccer Association.Kickoff times are 6:30 p.m. Monday between the Rangers and FC Fizi at ESA South Complex and Tuesday between the Impact and Les Gaulois at Queen Elizabeth High School.
Karate kicks
The 20th annual Spirit of the North, hosted by the Desa School of Karate in St. Albert, wraps up today with tournament action at Servus Credit Union Place.The competition starts at 9:30 a.m. and features brown belt and above for children, teen and adult all ranks, junior black belt and black belts in kobudo, kata and kumite.
