Rams wrap the season
The St. Albert Midget Rams have racked up another win after topping the Edmonton Midget A Warriors 9-7 on Thursday.
The Rams are having an outstanding season, winning 14 of their 20 games played so far. The team sits with 29 points in the standings, with a four-point lead over the second-place team, the Parkland Posse Midget A1.
Rams' Mathieu Gautier led the scoring for the team, potting two goals and earning an assist on a goal scored by Briley Maxwell.
Their final game of the season will take place on Tuesday, July 10, at 7:30 p.m. at the Akinsdale Arena. The home team will be facing off for a final time in the regular season against the second-place team, the Parkland Posse Midget A1. The Posse have won 10 of their 17 games this season, racking up another six losses and one tie.
The two teams have met seven times this year with the Rams coming out on top three times, and the Posse taking another three games. The teams finished with a 7-7 tie on June 21.
Cardinals win
On Tuesday night, the St. Albert Senior AA Cardinals pulled off a win by a single run against the Sturgeon Paladins.The Cardinals finished the game with a final score of 2-1 against the Paladins. The Cardinals sit in third place after the win, having topped their opposition in 10 of their 15 games so far this season. The Paladins are sitting in last place in the league, having lost all 13 of their games so far this season.
The two teams have faced off twice before this season with the Cardinals taking a win each time with final scores of 17-2 and 3-2.
The Cardinals are heading out of town for a doubleheader this weekend against the Sherwood Park Athletics, kicking off on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. The first-place Athletics have won eight of their 10 games so far this season and this is the first match-up between the two teams this season.
SARFC U17 Women
The St. Albert U17 rugby squad fell to the Lep Tigers on Thursday night in a home game at the St. Albert Rugby Club with a final score of 27-24.The SARFC U17 women are sitting in third place in the league after having played only one game so far this year. With the win against the home club, the Lep Tigers RFC is sitting in second place.
The U17 girls play again on Wednesday, July 18, at 7 p.m. at the Leprechaun Tigers RFC against the Leduc/Riggers.
