The St. Albert Bantam AAA Cardinals earned bragging rights to the name after beating the Edmonton Cardinals 13 to zip Wednesday.
Bantam AAA Cardinals field manager Dave McGuire said the St. Albert Cardinals opened round two of the Bantam AAA provincial league with a convincing thumping of the Edmonton Cardinals 13-0.
"This was a very good way of starting the rounds that count towards seeding for Bantam AAA provincials,” said Maguire. "Tonight the team excelled in all three phases of the game, pitching, defence and hitting."
He noted Dylan Gates threw a five-inning, two-hit shutout. He fanned four and walked none. "I felt very good tonight, my fastball was jumping and I was keeping the ball down in the zone. I have to give credit to our defence, they fielded every opportunity which made it easy for me to pitch with confidence."
First baseman Max Barclay Ward let the charge with three hits. Peter Corrigan had four RBIs, James Robillard had three and Ryley Fetter had two to lead the Cardinals attack.
