Spotlight on hockey games this weekend in St. Albert

Midget AA action

The Northern Alberta Midget AA Hockey League regular season continues this weekend for the Blues and Source for Sports Crusaders of St. Albert.

The Blues host the Beaumont Braves (3-2) today at 1:45 p.m. at Akinsdale Arena and Sunday’s game against the KC Colts (0-3-2) starts at 4 p.m. at Confederation Arena.

The Crusaders travel to play the GPAC Storm (1-5-1) today at 7 p.m. in Clairmont and the Peace River Royals (3-4) Sunday at 12 noon.

The Blues (3-2-1) are tied for the first place and the Crusaders (2-1-1) are ranked seventh in the Besa division of the Metro conference.

The NAMHL consists of 23 teams in four divisions split into two conferences.

The Blues are coming off Tuesday’s 2-0 home-ice decision against the Sherwood Park Oilers (2-2-2).

Kyle Lawrence and Brad Pollard (power play) tallied in the second period and Tanner Schnirer faced a game-high 30 shots.

The last game for the Crusaders was 5-1 against the Maple Leafs (1-5) Oct. 15 in St. Albert.

Carter Albrecht, Preston Leung, Carter Stock, Maddux Nollski and Ronin Pusch scored for the 2018 NAMHL champions.

Ethan Pool and Pusch added two assists apiece and Cole Crozier stopped 20 shots.

AFHL Raiders

Today’s home opener for the bantam elite St. Albert Raiders in the Alberta Female Hockey League starts at 3:30 p.m. against the Edmonton Pandas at Go Auto Arena.

Sunday the Raiders play the North Central Impact at 1:30 p.m. in Leduc.

The AFHL season started last weekend for the Raiders with road losses of 8-1 to Calgary Fire White and 1-0 to the Lloydminster Steelers.

Junior B game

The St. Albert Merchants skate into Sunday’s home game with a 3-2 record at Akinsdale Arena.

Faceoff is 8 p.m. against the Sherwood Park Knights (6-3-1) in the Capital Junior B Hockey League.

The Merchants (4-6) had lost four out of five games before playing the host Beaumont Chiefs (8-1) Friday. The score was unavailable at press time.

REM 15 Royals

The St. Albert Royals are back on the ice tonight in the Rural & Edmonton Midget 15AA Hockey League.

Game time is 8:30 p.m. against the Maple Leafs (2-1-1) at Mark Messier Arena.

The Royals were winners of four in a row to start the season before Thursday’s road game against the Sherwood Park Senators (3-1). The score was unavailable at press time.
